Electric Treadmill Safety
Even though you might think that treadmill safety would be common sense, there are several hundred people a year that call on American hospitals as the product of electric treadmill mishaps. Today’s treadmills have a rapidly moving belt and more than likely, a hydraulic system to change the incline. With this in mind here are a few safety guidelines to keep in mind when you’re using your electric treadmill.
Before the treadmill belt even starts to move, straddle it and wait for the computer to countdown the start. Prior to the count hits one, take one step onto the treadmill belt, sturdy your stability, then begin to walk in sync with the moving belt.
If you are in the middle of a workout and feel the need to stop the treadmill, do not wait for the routine to end. Merely use the emergency stop switch or pull on the attached lanyard. This will stop the machine instantly.
Additionally, if you need to get off the treadmill for any reason Do Not just hop off the treadmill. This will leave the belt in an operating mode and is dangerous for any children that may be around or when trying to get back on the treadmill.
While you are using your electric treadmill, do not stare at your feet while you are moving. This common blunder might cause you to lose your sense of stability and fall off the unit. Keep your eyes straight ahead or stare at the console display.
Clearly, when working out on your treadmill it is essential to do so by yourself. Do not let somebody else on the belt while you are exercising. This includes pets and small children.
In conclusion, be sure to wear the proper footwear. Do not wear flip-flops or go bare-footed when using the treadmill. This will guard the user from any injury that may be sustained while walking or running.
